November 11, 2019 – Free Concert

A MUSICAL PORTRAIT OF LEO MARCHUTZ BY MARC-OLIVIER DUPIN created for wind quintet and narrator, finds its origins in a myriad of overlapping friendships brought together by three generations of the Dupin and Marschutz families. The choice of texts and versification are founded on the contrast and diversity that characterize both the life and the artwork of Leo Marchutz.

The partition, written for five wind instruments, will be interpreted by the Quinette à Vent de Marseille with texts recited by actor Benoît Marchand. The slideshow, projected in real-time, following the live music, was created by Laurent Sarazin. Marc-Olivier Dupin will be conducting the ensemble.

The musical presentation will take place on Monday, November 11th, at 5 :00 pm at the Auditorium of the Darius Milhaud Conservatory of Music.

November 13, 2019 – Conference

THE CITY HALL OF AIX-EN-PROVENCE will be the venue of a conference on the correspondence, from 1933 and 1934, between the painter, Leo Marchutz, and two art historians and scholars who specialized in the work of Paul Cezanne: Fritz Novotny and John Rewald. The focus will be the landscape motifs of the Aix-born painter, the preliminary work on the theses of the two historians, and the daily life of the German artistic community at the Chateaunoir in the mid 1930’s. Actor Benoît Marchand will recite the texts. Antony Marschutz will place the narrative in its context to facilitate understanding.

The conference is part of a series organized by the Aix-based association “Arts, Cultures et Voyages” and will take place at The Aix City Hall, on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:00 pm.
